Not the way I want Dems to take control!

Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla quit real quickly. I have sympathy for the Page and the embarassment of this situation. As for the Congressman, well, what in the heck were you thinking??? What I don't understand is how these communications happened? Did the Congressman use government computers to chat with the kid? Well, clearly it got out and we'll find out the details later.

I'm sure the likes of O'Reilly would have the guy's head. I don't think it's that terrible of offense, but clearly he is not a good role model as member of congress AND a key committee covering the exploitation of children. Not good! Well, he's gone and that's that. Certainly this behavior is not typical of either party and should not be labeled as such.

Musharraf: Iraq war makes world more dangerous

He said it, not I. All I say is DUH! End the perception of imperialism and the world can be our friends again.

The DEVIL in Hillary?

Jerry Fallwell says nothing will energize his base better than if Hillary runs. Not even Lucifer! Ha ha, that is good! Why does this woman get everyone so fired up? She wasn't the one who had the wild sex life... She's a somewhat liberal politician trying to act centrist and gain power. It's not a surprise someone like that is Senator from New York, is it?

What I look at with dismay is the fact that religio-con evangelicals like Fallwell still infest the Republican Party. The grand old party has shifted far away from the likes of Barry Goldwater. Now, you've gotta be religious to join... I guess that sort of counts me out!

The state of affairs in Iran...

Just read Ariyan's message. I think it says it all:

Hi Hankie

Oh that's great we have lot's of filters here...
they filter our access to internet(not only sexual website but also political websites)...we cant watch outher countries' TV programs(they confiscate satellite dishes)...and it's hard to travel abroad for university students because they pass some laws about it......and there are other limitations...
but i usually dont let them limit my freedom(antiproxy-in some high schools they dont let students to have mustache and goattee but they couldnt do anything about me)

Hugs+ a big (kiss)
Ariyan

Bill Clinton gets defensive...

Oh come on now! Enough already! Why go on Fox News if you can't take the heat???? He would do his cause more good by just being humble and saying: "well, we tried, but I wish we had done more..."

Like I have said many times before, both him and Bush #1 shoulder their share of the blame for the leadup to 9/11. I won't be too hard on them as during the giddy 90's we thought the world was getting away from conflict. Our mistake!

The former president should stick to fundraising for natural disasters and aids.

Some Normalcy?

I wanted to ask the forest service ranger if the "permanent snow field" had decreased over recent years above Summit Lake on Mount Evans. It was pretty tiny. Still it was good to see signs of normalcy. The aspen trees are changing on schedule and it was frigid on Mt. Evans, with a dusting of snow near the top.

I think they got a pretty normal snowpack up there last year, but it melted out a bit quickly.

3 religious groups back gay rights in Ref I

See, they're not ALL bad! Of course I thought the United Church of Christ would, but it's nice to have some Methodists, Jews and Presbyterians on board. I guess it's the largest coalition of churches in the state, the Colorado council of Churches! The Jews come in through the Colorado Interfaith Alliance. Colorado Clergy for Equality in Marriage is the other group.

As expected, Focus on the Family is bucking it as is the Colorado Catholic Conference. They think it is "marriage in disguise"...

My libertarian stance is that people are going to form whatever relationship they wish; recognized or not. As long as people aren't engaging in illegal activities, like trying to marry and have sex with children and other really taboo things, I think it is nobody's business! The fact is there are many same-sex couples in committed relationships that obey the law and pay taxes.

This is a good compromise between the same-sex marriage foes and proponets.

Anti-pope outrage grows

And I suppose you think I should stick up for him??? After all the anti-gay stuff he's said??? Look I don't like the prick, but some Muslims DO tend to be hypersensitive! First, I'd like to see calm in the world! Secondly, I'd like to see a Pope who knows when to keep his mouth shut. Thirdly, I think peaceful Muslims throughout the world should protest the Pope's slander peacefully...

And just because I live in the Western world, the Pope and all these Evangelical Christians DO NOT speak for me! As you know, I can speak for myself! Don't force me to bring up the sordid history of the Papacy and the Catholic Church!!!

Colorado Politics...

If there comes along a republican leaning blog that doesn't promote the religio-cons or neo-cons, I'll try and be fair minded in this blog and list it. Being neighbors with Focus on the Family in Colorado, however, you'll pretty much see me promoting democrats. I'm sorry, because Colorado has produced a couple of decent moderate republicans over the years. It's just that we need to rebalance politics in this nation.

Anyway, here's one progressive blog: http://coloradoconfidential.com/magFront.do

Like everyone else, except the diehard partisans, I get frustrated by politicians and their constant bickering. The "uniter, not a divider" has got us pretty well divided.

What day is it? Oh, I almost forgot...

Oh yeah, it's 9/11! Ok, that's enough said... The five year anniversary will be used to mark our progress (or lack of it) since 2001. I also believe that the anniversary will be used to renew interest in the "war on terror" in a war-weary nation.

Then there is the political aspect of it. Both sides, the left and the right, will be trying to lay blame on their opponets. I hear the Clintons are kind of upset over a CNN documentary named "The path to 9/11". Actually, they should shoulder their fair share of the blame, as well as the previous administration.

There are the aspects of "leading up to" and "post 9/11", when analyzing what has happened. I don't place blame on any one person, but a lot of mistakes have been made since that fateful day.

In my humble opinion, we are NOT being very smart in prosecuting this "war". A lot of people who should have been our allies have been turned against us.

Blessed are the rich???

This is a new mentality among Evangelical Christians that God wants them to be rich. I don't believe God wants people to be poor, but the word rich needs defining.

A person can be "poor" in material things, yet "rich" in life experience. You could go to Europe and stay in fancy hotels at a high cost, or treck your way across China on a budget and have rich experiences.

Since this "Evangelical" movement is largely an American thing, we must be mindfull that our excesses are at the expense of others in the world. I would hope that at least these people give to their particular church, which in turn gives to the poor.

I don't want to be rich at the expense of others! Call it the commie in me, but I don't like the growing divide between rich and poor. It squeezes the middle class. Also, being poor isn't all that bad as long as you can get enough to eat and have some sort of roof over your head. And have some sort of healthcare!

Speaking of healthcare, we're all going to end up in the poorhouse the way it is going!

Senators: CIA dismissed Saddam-al Qaeda ties before war

Well, that's not exactly a bright endorsement for administration policy, for sure! But fact of the matter is that now al Quada IS a big part of the landscape in Iraq. It was our doing!

I'm not exactly a stay the course guy. However I'm not cut and run, either. Make needed changes in the way things are done there and adapt. And get this thing concluded before the public demands a precipitous pull out like they had in Vietnam!

A New Arab Peace Plan

I'm all for anything that could give hope to the region! It really would be nice to have some moderate Arab countries signing on to a peace plan. They are Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. I still think it would take a while for the deep hatreds to be soothed!

It's either that or blow the region up so nobody can live there!

Schwarzenegger apologizes over remark...

Why? Oh Arnie, it's o.k.... Puerto Ricans and Cubans are HOT! So what's the big fuss????? Are we getting so P.C. that we can't talk about race characteristics? I won't cut any race down, but if I talk about some race being HOT, you know it's a good thing! If I have to be P.C. in this blog, then I'll shut it down!

(I wish I was HOT and did not have this icy German blood running through my veins!)

Mr. Bush, Mr. Ahmadinejad, please shut the fuck up!

I'm getting sick of this rhetoric. It's doing no good! Bush can go around calling everybody islamofascists, evildoers and killers, but Iran will still get the bomb if they want it... And the Bush administration is sounding like a broken record: PUMP UP THE VOLUME, THE ELECTION IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!

Then there's Mr. Ahmadinejad. What a loose cannon! I watched that testy interview with Mike Wallace. Do you really think the world will let you wipe Israel off the map??? You saw how heavy-handed their response was to the Hezbollah rockets, didn't you? How do you think they will react if Tehran launches something directly at Israel (it'll take something a little bigger than Katyusha rockets to wipe them off the map...) And you know, sir, that Israel DOES have the bomb. I really don't want your people to be hurt for some war that didn't need to happen. Also, a LOT of Arabs and Palestinians would perish if Isreal were nuked... We all know your focus on Israel is to distract from discontent at home.

Just for the record, I do not always support the heavy handedness of Israel. And of course I do not support outside countries pumping money into Hezbollah for it's military actions.

It is time to CUT THE MIC!

A blog of note!

This is from an American soldier stationed in Iraq. It may not be an "authorized" blog, but that makes it even better. God, I wish it weren't that way over there, but our suspicions appear to be true...

The Crocodile Hunter gone?

We were getting to the point where we thought he was invincible. He's obviously mortal! I suppose I could crack a lot of jokes about him, but the fact is he cared about animals and educated us. Besides he had nice legs!

This is not to say I did not believe this would happen. Anyway, he'll be missed. In our tired old lives, we love to hear about adventures in the wild. I'd rather go that way than die of mediocrity, which I am currently experiencing.

Mexico court to rule on disputed election Tuesday

Oye Veh! This is worse than Gore, Bush! With that country’s famous corruption, who knows which candidate is the winner? Time for a runoff election!

American al Qaeda: U.S. should convert to Islam

When pigs fly I will! This is one area I would probably be in total agreement with Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. Why would this idiot issue such an outlandish suggestion? Why not just say: "U.S. should make peace with Islam".

We really ought to try and find a way to do this. Fighting all the Muslims in the world does not seem to be a practical idea.
